Homestead 15k

Fun race with lots of Sojourners. Warmup w/ Devra, Melody, and Jen. Scott, thank goodness for you! I joked at the start that he should pace me again. I wasn't in real race mode, so I just wanted a good tempo effort. Scott stayed with me to draft off the whole race. That helped so much! Devra was so tough in his race, running on tired marathon legs.

Devra hung with us for a couple miles, then dropped back a bit, but kept within distance. Soon after mile 3 we came to Memorial Hill. That was a good 1.5 mile climb that winded around a hill to a small tip w/ a big flag. I kept a good tempo effort, but after mile 6, I kind of hit a wall (dang it, where's my GU!) and I really had to work. The hills never ended. Finally by the last mile, I had a gear change and finished well.  I was second overall (beat by a high school speedy guy) in 55:38.

Cooldown w/ Devra, Jen and Crystal. Such great people. Lots of good food and prizes after the race. Homestead is a beautiful place.
