Layton Classic 5k

I spotted some friends Jake and Andrea at packet pick-up.  Jake braved a course warm up with me, with some pretty raw wounds from the XC race.  Ouch!
I wasn't feeling great on the warm up but thats normal.  They kept delaying the start so I got in a couple strides, then made my place at the start by Allie.  Off the line I went out too fast and found myself in no mans land quickly.  First mile 5:30, then came the uphill mile and I slowed down a good 20+ sec, and the third mile was only minorly faster than the second.  Nothing impressive.  Riley Cook, finishing the 10k, came closing behind me fast in the home stretch.
I finished first in 17:49. That first mile did me in.  I'm not use to 5k pain.  It just hurt the whole time.  But then it was over quick so that's the fun part.  I hope to get in some more 5ks this fall!
Longer cool down with a good size group.  Fun morning and lots of catching up with friends.
