Beautiful morning at the Saltair Palace. Weather was nice and calm, near 40 degrees. This is the last race of the 30k winter series. I ran a 5k warmup with a big group of runners.
My goal for this race was an even pace at 6:00 min/mile to prepare me for my half marathon next weekend in Phoenix. We had a decent field of women for this race. Sariah Long, Devra, Nan Kennard and of course the high schoolers :)
Sariah stayed with me for a couple miles and we quickly got mixed in with a
group of guys. The pack leader, James, surged after 3 miles and I tried to go with him, but
didn't make contact. We all strung out and I ran alone the rest of the way. I
felt good but worked to maintain pace. I passed a few guys along the way and
came close to catching a rival, Rob Murphy, at the line.
I won with a 6:02 AP for 9.36, so pretty close to my goal.
Cooldown 2 miles with Devra and Nan and Liis (all former BYU tracksters).
splits: 6:05, 5:59, 5:58, 6:06, 6:03, 6:00, 6:01, 6:06, 6:03, 2:04 (.36). 56:24
