2013 Utah Valley Half Marathon -- Trevor Baker

Overall Time: 01:11:31
Place overall: 8
Place in age division: 1

Early morning...  Didn't turn out the way I was hoping.   I used the downhill parts to my advantage early on, but realistically went out too hard and I prob paid for it a little bit.  I ran with Riley, Josh, and Kotter for the first mile and half and tried to back off just to not go out to hard.  I knew Jake was going to move by me and about 2.5 he went by looking strong.  I pretty much just keyed off of Jake and Riley most of the downhill portion.  At about 8 miles, my stomach started having some issues, but I kept pushing.  9 miles I felt like maybe I'd be alright and once I hit 10 I was just praying I wouldn't have to stop since my stomach just felt sick.  Mile 10 was a whopping 5:50 and that's the fastest I could go without heading for the bushes.  Matt ran excellent and capitalized on my slow mile.  Hornok and the Blue past me also in my rough mile, I tried to latch back on and just go as fast as I could without forcing myself to stop.  That's the way the race ended.  The goal was to PR and if possible get 5th.  Both were pretty realistic today, but with the mix of things, neither came to be.  Still hungry and looking forward to July racing.  I'll get that PR soon.  Matt ran smart and tough and is always fun to have in the field.  Great finish Matt.  It was fun having one of my best friends, Josh McCabe there as well.

Splits: 5:07, 5:15, 5:29, 5:22, 5:07, 5:20, 5:32, 5:31, 5:35, 5:39, 5:50, 5:34, 5:30, :43 (last .15?)  (like

Can't wait for more training, racing, and improving.
