Phoenix Half Marathon 2014 -- Kassi

Warm up 2 miles easy. Windy with rain off and on throughout the race. I ran with Danya, a AZ girl and a CO guy for the first 2-3 miles.  I then took the lead with the guy and we ran side by side for the next 3-4 miles.  After 6 miles I decided to tuck behind him with the wind and try to just stay with him.

We were running pretty consistent that first 6 miles, and then he picked it up a bit so I tried to focus on staying tough and relaxed to stay with him.  There were several times I got a few steps behind and had to work to get right with him.  He was really helping me and pushing me to stay on pace for a sub 1:18.

The last mile he really picked it up and I couldn't stay with him anymore.  I was still able to run the last mile my fastest and finished first in 1:17:53. I think that is a PR for me on a flat course.  I ran a cool down w/ Danya.

I am glad I could tough it out to the end, despite the windy and rainy conditions.  The race went perfect for me and I really enjoyed it.  The only bummer was waiting an extra hour for awards....but had a great time seeing all my fellow runners who all ran great!  Utah represented well winning the men and women half, men's marathon, and women's 10k.

SPLITS: 6:02, 5:56, 6:03, 5:59, 5:59, 5:58, 5:55, 5:56, 5:56, 5:59, 5:52, 5:47, :38 for .12.  AP 5:56
