Timp Trail Half Marathon- New Course Record!

Adam Jenkins

This is for sure one of the best races out there! I definitely felt that I was in my element. I'm not a very good racer when I'm on my own, which is maybe common for the majority of us, but it was really nice to have the trails to keep me happy and entertained as I led the race. I was very happy with this race. Amber and I had been talking about racing it for a couple weeks but weren't for sure about it until the night before. I was looking forward to it though because my old friend from High School held the course record and I was shooting to break his and set a new one. Leading up to the race I was feeling really fresh, all except for some slight irritation in my left arch during warm up. I just assumed it would loosen as I got going and ignored it. The start felt very comfortable as I started out with Dave Taylor. We were hitting pace with ease, so when the first significant hill came up, I pushed up and started putting some distance on the rest of the group. I felt really strong on the hills and when I hit the fire trail I settled into a pretty comfortable 5:30 pace. The only time I didn't feel so hot was up dry canyon, which I assume was true for everyone. That stunk! I walked up parts and was a little embarrassed to look down at my watch at a mile marker and see 13:12 on my mile split. But it was all downhill after that and I closed with a decent 5k. I ended up winning by about 8 minutes and beating the old record by 3. I was glad I wore a little more protective trail shoes for the race (lonepeak) because my foot didn't really loosen up and I felt my arch especially in some of the rockier parts and steeper downhills. After the race my foot was swollen to a much bigger size than usual and I got an x-ray on Wednesday. Doc said it could be a possible fracture but is more likely a bone bruise, and I'm kind of hoping that is the case. Well, that's about it. Until the next race....Stay strong!

Hey Adam,

Mile 9 seems to have hit you pretty hard. Was it a hill? I'm not familiar with the course.
