The Village Run - Melody

This was a fun local race that supports the Utah foster kids program.   It was held at Lakeridge Jr. High School and wound around the neighborhoods there.  The gun went of and I went out hard with some younger boys.  The first part went up a really steep hill then was pretty flat once we turned on 800S. Because of that I didn't look at my watch for a while but was happy to see a 5:30ish effort that evened out to about 5:45 for most of the rest of the race.  One young kid stuck with me for the first part of the race and really helped me get into a good rhythm.  But just shy of 1.5 miles he stopped dead in his tracks - he literally just stopped.  He ended up coming in 2nd place and I asked him at the finish what happened and he said he needed to catch his breath before he started running hard again.  Anyway - I was on my own for the rest of the race but they had the course well marked and had people placed at every corner.  They were so happy and always gave me a cheer and a smile.  That helped a ton, especially in the burn of the 3rd mile!  It was short of a 5K - but I was happy with the effort and definitely think I could have held on another .2 miles.   I cooled down and had my husband bring my boys over for a cute post race easter egg hunt.  Besides being a tad short, it was a well done race.  It was pretty hilly and had a quite a few turns so I was really happy to see where I was at today given that I haven't raced in over 5 months.

2.9 miles, 16:38
1st place overall
