Warmed up and ran 1 stride at the start. There were a bunch of ladies that I
knew and some unfamilar faces. I think we all seemed a little nervous. Sariah
Long is the only one, I think, that had ran the course before.
There was a lot of excitement at the start and Kendall had a great crew
getting us going and supporting us along the course. The gun went off and
imediately a pack of 6 men broke away and were long gone after a couple miles.
I took it out really conservative the first mile, which happened to be my
slowest mile (6:30), with a couple other ladies.
We stayed together for a couple miles, then I picked it up and they didn't go
with me. After 3.5 miles the real fun started on the course. We ran about 2.5
miles in the gardens. Turns all over the place with many up and down hills.
Then we came back on the road for less than a mile, and then on the golf course
path until mile 12! This part was really tough, really hilly for 6 miles and it
seemed like it never let up!
I ran with Rob Murphy for a few miles of the garden/golf course. He joked
that he had never ran a half marathon cross country course before until now.
Last mile was flat and straight to the finish....so nice! Every mile was marked
exactly on. That never happens. I finshed hard and was happy to find out that
I set a new course record by 7 seconds :) 1:21:44 AP 6:14.
Legs were not use to so much variety :) But it was definately a blast to
run! Not to mention the awesome food and party after the race. I was very
impressed by the great oganization and support. Thanks Kendall.
