St George Half Marathon 2014

This race was very different from last year for me for many reasons. I warmed up 2 m w/ Amber and Jen w/ plenty of time to spare. I was really calm and excited for the race. The gun went off at 9:00 and Amber Green took the lead for the first mile. Then Sariah Long and I passed her. Sariah led for a few miles, then we basically ran together until mile 6.5, where we had a good hill climb, and nice downhill.

I opened a small gap right away, but I knew she was keeping within striking distance. It was about at this point in the race last year when Kodi Kleven took off and left me in her dust, and I really struggled the rest of the race, flat, with no kick at the end. This year I felt strong and in control. I knew Sariah was there so I stayed focused and tried to not lose ground. The race went by fast and I finished the last 200m with a kick while my neices ran along side me and kept up!  I ran 1:18:55 for the win.

No cooldown.... Lots of family waiting around and not staying long. Plus I got a painful blister on each foot.

All in all, I really enjoy this race. The course is rolly and challenging but nothing too crazy. The weather is always nice.  The start was chilly and I over dressed. After the first few miles I was warmed up and then just sweated through all my layers.

Many great runners come out to this race, which keeps it exciting :)  We had a good handful of Sojourners too.  Amber Andrews won the 5k easily.  Jen Hughes finished 3rd in the Half with an amazing time of 1:22! And then Mike and Matt finished near the top with a course record winner ahead of them.
