Blake Pumphrey- Thanksgiving Point Half Marathon

Saturday was the first half marathon I've done in over 2 years. It was the first time racing in the team jersey.  And it was the first race that my new son Brooks got to come watch.
It was raining at the beginning and continued to rain throughout the entire race.  The rain didn't bother me to much, it was actually quite enjoyable and it kept me cool.  The course was very beautiful and had lots of turns on it.  If this was just a normal week day run it could have been very enjoyable.  However since it was a race I found it to be very difficult.  At first it was fun running through tunnels and around flower pots but soon it became a real struggle for me.  It was hard to get into a rhythm and my pace was constantly changing.  It was a very hilly course and there were a few times I felt like walking.  Even with all the hills and turns I was able to run the course in 1:22:55 which is a 6:20 pace.  That is a new PR for me so I was happy with my performance.  I placed 6th over all and 1st in my age group.  I used this half marathon to help get me into race shape for my marathon in 3 weeks.

Splits: 6:06, 6:10, 5:54, 5:58, 6:13, 6:41, 6:15, 6:27, 6:20, 6:21, 6:24, 6:31, 6:08, 1:26 (Garmin said it was 13.2 miles)

So excited you got a PR! And on a tough course in the rain with no consistent place to get in a rhythm. Wahoo for you!
