It's that time of year again - tons of 5ks around to choose from. Fun little race in Provo to encourage good cardiovascular health. Easy 2 mile warm up before the race. The course was a looped course that was ever so slightly down the first half then slightly uphill on the river trail to the finish. The last little bit cruises down the parking ramp so I was able to coast in at 4:44 pace, that was fun. No goals, and I even thought a 10k tempo might be in order, but I felt great and had a couple guys to run with the first 1.5 miles so I went out aggressively. The last half I was all alone and I definitely slowed the last mile. Longish cool down to get my miles in for the day. Happy that I was able to pull off a decent time off of semi tired legs (from last Sat.) Cool Running Pace Calc converts my time to a 17:30 on a 3.1 course - my Garmin read the course a titch long so that news was really encouraging. I would love to break 17:30 on a net flat course like this. Derick M. was there too and didn't have a hard time taking first place overall - even though he claims he is out of shape right now. I came in about a minute behind him and took second overall, but first for women.
