Tour de Run
This race was a fun one. Nate Houle did a great job putting the 3 different stages together. Each stage was point to point, so no net elevation change which was nice. I only wanted to run what I had to to win; and make it as close to a workout as I could. I ran comfortable for the first stage which was a 5k to take a slight lead. The second stage was a 10k Saturday morning with perfect conditions. This stage had one long hill with its accompanying long downhill. Once we hit the hill I felt comfortable and thought that it would be a good time to put some distance between Jake and I. I wanted a 30 second gap so I could chill on the 3rd stage but Jake held on strong and finished just 14 seconds back. For the 3rd stage it was a 4.4 mile out n' back. I just wanted to hold on and keep it within the 14 seconds. The first 2-3 miles felt really comfortable, but once we got out of the trees in the last little bit of the race the heat really got to me, but by that point Jake had made it known that he was just planning on tempo-ing the rest of the run, which I was grateful for. Once I knew I had the overall victory I shut it down and focused on finishing. This event has a lot of potential to become one of Utah's premier races, it just needs more people to give it a chance! I would recommend everyone to try it out next year.
