1:13:25. Super happy with this race.
Scott made me an offer I couldn't refuse since he
decided to race Top Of Utah next weekend he ran this one today as a
workout and wanted to pace me to a PR. What an awesome thing to do
because I know he could have really popped an awesome race off today had
he wanted.
Race plan was to start conservative and ease in to it. Roll through
10 and the race the last 3. For the most part I was able to execute the
plan and it made a big difference having Scott with. Our first mile was
5:42 and then we just rolled off 5:28-5:32 until mile 8.
That nasty bike path rolly turny 1.5 mile stretch went much better on
the workout last weekend. I started to feel it in toward the end of the
stretch and crossed the red line a couple times. I tried to reign it
back in and relax and did ok until about the 11 mile marker. The last 2
miles were very tough, this section also went better in the workout last
week. It was a really warm day too but I don't think this was a factor
as I've been training a bunch in the heat.
I drew from several places to keep it going and not fall completely
apart. My friend Dan has been injured for a long time. I wrote his name
on my shoe so I would be mindful of his warrior spirit and it helped me
finish as strong as I could even though I was fading. I really can't thank Scott enough, it was so beneficial to have him with me throughout the race. It was almost a 2 minute PR for me. St. George is looking good. Just a few more weeks to go!
So many great performances from Sojourners and friends. Fun to see and be a part of. Super grateful.
