I signed up for the 10k in hopes of getting a good workout in. This course has really evolved over the years, and this years course was just as hard as the ones in years past. 3 miles up the canyon, a180 degree turn, then 3 miles back down the canyon with a short uphill finish. My splits going up were atrocious, but somehow I ended up with a 6 flat average- I felt great coming down the canyon. The course merged with the 5k runners at 4.5, so there was a lot of weaving in and out of people and dodging bikers. It may have actually helped me a bit though since the first part of the race was a solo effort. The last part of the course turns uphill towards Timp Park. I passed an older man and he was not about to let me pass him. I think he thought I was in the 5k with him because he got super competitive. For a second I thought I should just let him take it, but he slowed up a bit and I surged past him. He fought it for another 5 meters then let me go. It definitely made a difference in my finish. I would have just coasted in had he not lured me into a chase.
35:48 course was just over 6 miles
1st for women
