Bryce Canyon 50k

Completed my first Ultra on a very difficult, but absolutely gorgeous course. I finished 2nd overall in 5:30:49 and had an awesome experience. The DNF rate for the race was over 30%. I'm very happy with how it all went, especially since my friend Ari roped me into it last weekend. I was undertrained but never broke and kept moving forward long after my body said no :).

Thoughts for next time:

  • Tailwind is gross and makes for a very mad stomach
  • No protien gels, made stomach madder than tailwind
  • Stick with what works for breakfast, no reason to change it up just because the run is farther
  • Stick with my marathon gel plan, type and brand
  • A vest is too much for race day
  • A 20oz bottle will be plenty and much lighter
  • Shoes were fantastic, Pearl Izumi N1 trails. No hot spots, blisters, or discomfort of any kind. I even wore them the rest of the day for hiking around Bryce park. Happy feet!
  • Always plan for a long course (33.1 miles this time)
  • Train next time and compete for the win

I'm so grateful for a strong healthy body and the opportunity to run such an event. Life is full of opportunities and I'm so happy I recognized and embraced this one.
